A good question indeed

Wizards of the Coast is not opposed to proxies, but they must be distinguishable from the original cards

Even as I am writing this, I am wondering if I could build a good midrange black deck that uses copies of all of these cards

You first encountered them in a shady tavern as you became unlikely allies when you were all caught in the crossfire during a brawl between a group of surly orcish barbarians and a squadron of off-duty halfling artificers

The game is purposefully complex but also made more fun because each card is unique, and all can change the elements and directions, or essentially the rules, of the play

We get a creature at our upkeep and lose 1 life by doing so
